Before We Found YEAH ZEUS

A late-night platform, a stencil on a wall and a name that stuck. A little throwback to how we eventually crossed paths with the elusive YEAH ZEUS.

A name on a platform

Every now and then, you come across something that sticks in your head for reasons you can't quite explain.

This was one of those moments. Late at night, a railway platform, fisheye lens, and a piece of YEAH ZEUS stencil work on the wall. At the time, the name was barely more than a whisper. Maybe even a myth. There was an image, a name and a feeling that there was something interesting going on behind it.

I took the picture and got on with things, but I never quite forgot it.

The mystery of YEAH ZEUS

This was before DISTRICT. PROVISIONS, before the current setup and before we had a name for what we were eventually building. YEAH ZEUS was just something I'd stumbled across and wanted to know more about.

Finding out who was behind it wasn't exactly straightforward. They seemed to have mastered the art of being just out of reach. There were a few near misses along the way, but I kept looking.

Eventually, I tracked them down. Turns out there really was an independent clothing brand behind the name, and we got talking. One thing led to another, a deal came together, and that early curiosity turned into a proper relationship.

The YEAH ZEUS mark. A name that went from mystery to a real connection.

From a stencil to the shop floor

What started with a photograph on a station platform became part of our story. YEAH ZEUS wasn't just a name we'd spotted somewhere; it became a brand we had a connection with, sharing some of the same interests and ambitions.

Looking back, that's one of the things I like about independent street culture. You don't always find the good stuff through a big launch or a carefully planned introduction. Sometimes it's a graphic on a wall, a name you can't shake, or a lead that takes a few attempts to follow up.

And sometimes, if you keep at it, you find the people behind it.

YEAH ZEUS out in the wild. A reminder of the brand and the relationship that grew from that first encounter.

Funny where things start

The platform shot still takes me back. There's something about that time, when YEAH ZEUS was still a mystery to me and the whole DISTRICT. PROVISIONS thing was yet to take shape.

We know them now. We've worked together, and the connection has grown well beyond that first glimpse of a stencil in the middle of the night.

But I still like the fact that it began with a picture, a name and a bit of curiosity.
