Before the rails went in
Found this old shot from the day we got the keys to the unit at Forge District.
Bit different from how things look now.
Back then, it was basically a shell of a building. Empty space, plenty to sort out and a lot of ideas about what we wanted to do with it. You could look at it and see a warehouse that needed work, or you could start imagining what it might become.
We went with the second option.
Build it and they will come
The idea was to bring together the stuff we're into: hip hop, skate, clothing, art, vintage finds and all the other bits of street culture that don't always fit neatly into one category.
Getting the keys was one thing. Turning an empty unit into something with its own identity was another. There was plenty to figure out, and not everything was going to look exactly as we'd first imagined.
That's half the fun, though. You get stuck in, see what works and build from there.
Things move on
DISTRICT. PROVISIONS has developed quite a bit since those early days. We've refined the look, worked on the identity and rebuilt our online presence along the way. The current pages are the latest part of that process, not a complete record of everything that's gone into it.
Thought this picture was worth bringing back. It's easy to focus on how things look now and forget what the place looked like before it all started coming together.
Anyway, here's the unit on day one. Plenty of potential, plenty to do.
And that's where the fun starts.
